President Rodrigo Roa Duterte consoled the bereaved families of the victims of landslide triggered by Typhoon Ompong when it ravaged the Municipality of La Trinidad in the Province of Benguet.
Ompong, the strongest typhoon to hit this year, had left several areas in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) submerged and consequently caused multiple landslides, resulting in a total of 54 casualties, 52 of which were caused by the landslide incidents.
The Chief Executive was welcomed by 52 relatives of the landslide victims, which comprises of 22 families representing 29 fatalities, and 21 families representing 40 missing individuals.
Ventura Pundinlan, 42, mill operator, was the sole landslide survivor who attended the event, whose company is still missing after the incident happened.
Officers from Social Security System (SSS) Baguio City were also present before the meeting to inform its members of free funeral services and other benefits that will be covered by the agency.
