President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. talked with President Director Dr. Teguh Prajitno and key officials of PT Vaksindo Satwa Nusantara, an animal vaccine manufacturer based in Indonesia, during a meeting at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In June 2023, Dr. Teguh Prajitno visited the Philippines during the ILDEX Philippines —Live Stock Exhibition and conducted a seminar to educate Philippine farmers about viral diseases, especially the viral inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) and the Newcastle Disease (ND), which affects birds including domestic poultry.
The Philippines is currently facing problems with the AI substrains H5N1 and H5N8, which are likely to mutate as a side effect of using non-accredited vaccines.
Regarding the African swine fever (ASF) vaccine, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) reported the completion of Phase 1 of the trial testing. The results indicate that at least 80% of the inoculated animals have produced antibodies 28 days after vaccination. Currently, Phase 2 vaccination trials are ongoing in the provinces of Batangas, Quezon and Pangasinan until September 2023.
