President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a meeting on updates regarding the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) ‘Food Stamp’ Program at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian sought to have the pilot implementation of the program approved as one of the Administration’s flagship programs, enlist the assistance of the Economic Team to identify fund sources and ensure effective collaboration with other agencies, among others.
The DSWD aims to utilize basic deposit cards as the platform for beneficiaries after the pilot implementation that targets the bottom one million households of its ‘Listahan 3’. Secretary Gatchalian emphasized that ‘Food Stamp’ is not a dole out; instead of cash, food shall serve as the program’s currency that will also prioritize children’s development and nutrition.
The Department is undertaking measures to include pregnant and lactating women into its database of beneficiaries.
