President Benigno S. Aquino III met with the officials of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) at the Imperial Hotel on the first day of his State Visit to Japan.

In the official meet-and-greet session, the President witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Business Promotion Cooperation between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and JETRO.

Working to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the Philippines, JETRO is a government-related organization established in 1958 that aims to promote exports of Japan’s products abroad.

At present, it has 73 offices in 55 countries including Manila. Over the years, JETRO Philippines has promoted trade and investment between the two countries, focusing on products made by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Warmly greeting President Aquino were JETRO Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige together with Seiya Sukegawa (JETRO Senior Coordinator for Southeast Asia), Tomohiro Ando (JETRO Philippines Executive Director), Nobuyuki Nakajima (JETRO Chief Director, Niigata and Incoming Executive Director of Manila Office), Tomohiro Takashima (JETRO Director, Secretariat Office and Chief Personal Assistant for Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yutaka Hashimoto), and Yuri Seki (JETRO Coordinator for Southeast Asia).

Also present during the event were the Cabinet Secretaries of the President.
