Before embarking on his Official Visit to Malaysia, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte flew to Bangkok, Thailand and paid his respects to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Upon his arrival at the Grand Palace, the President was met by Director General Chakri Srichawana and was introduced to Lord Chamberlain Chirayu Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya. Thereafter, he was ushered towards the Royal Funeral Urn to present his wreath of condolence.

At the end of the ceremony, President Duterte was invited by the Lord Chamberlain to sign the Book of Condolence. Afterwards, he motored to the Bangkok Royal Air Force Base for his departure to Malaysia.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej was deemed as a symbol of unity and a figure that stabilized a country shaken by several coups during his reign. He drove his nation towards economic development and made Thailand one of the most progressive countries in Asia.

His Majesty the King passed away on October 13, 2016 at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital. The entire nation of Thailand is under a yearlong official mourning for the passing of their beloved ruler who reigned for seven decades. His son, Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, will sit on the throne as the new king of Thailand upon his confirmation on December 2016.
