Sofitel Hotel, Pasay City
29 April 2014

One of the first 40 COMET (City Optimized Managed Electric Transport) e-jeepneys was inspected by President Barack Obama during its launching at the Sofitel Hotel Tent in Pasay City.

The COMET is a safe and eco-friendly 20-seater shuttle using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFeP04) batteries. It is fully-charged within 5 hours and runs up to 80 kilometers in a single energy transfusion. Its speed is limited at 60 kph to avoid road speeding.

The electric jeep is fully-equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, CCTV camera and a flat screen television. It uses a cashless fare system through the tap-in/tap-out reloadable cards. The first batch will traverse the SM North – Monumento route.

COMET is a project of Global Electric Transportation (GET) Philippines, a company of American and Filipino partners, which aims to provide transportation solutions in Metro Manila’s worsening traffic and pollution.
