The National Palace, known to locals as the Istana Negara, is the official residence of Malaysia’s Head of State, Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Construction began in 2007 but was only completed in September 2011. The new palace combined Islamic and Malay architectural elements, according to the design of architectural firm Kumpulan Seni Reka Sdn Bhd. The new Istana Negara replaced the old palace due to space constraints.
