President Rodrigo Duterte graced the ‘Invest Philippines CEO Roundtable’ event organized by the Department of Trade and Industry-Philippine Trade and Investment Center during his official visit in Bangkok, Thailand.
In his remarks, President Duterte gave his personal guarantee in doing business in the Philippines – there would be no corruption and would honor obligations and contracts.
“If you go to the Philippines your business will be protected… if there is any problem, my request on this is that I should know first, you would have access. If you want to talk to me and say you have this problem, I would give you the time,” assured the President.
He added that they should explore investment opportunities in the country, most especially in the area of infrastructure.
Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez made a brief presentation on “The Philippine Growth Story” and showed several opportunities for investors to do business in the country.
The Philippine delegation who joined the President in the roundtable discussion included Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, Acting Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Senator Vicente Sotto III, Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo Bernardo-Aragon, Marinduque Lone District Representative Allan Velasco, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go, and Presidential Adviser on Economic Affairs and Information Technology Communications Ramon Jacinto.
Representatives from Thai’s major business groups that were present during the event included Mr. Chen Namchaisiri, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industry and Chairman of JSCCIB (Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry, and Banking); Mr. Issara Wongkusolkij, chairman of the Board of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand; Mr. Kobsak Duangdee, secretary general of Thai Banker’s Association; Mr. Visit Limprana, chairman of Thailand – Philippines Business Council and Mr. Eusebio H. Tanco, chairman of Philippines – Thailand Business Council.
