Ms. Charito Basa is the founder and current vice chair of the Filipino Women’s Council (FWC), a Filipino migrant women’s association based in Rome. She has become one of the major spokespersons on women migrants’ issues and has worked as a resource person for many Italian and international organizations.
Aside from being the author of several publications on migrant workers and related issues, she worked in the managing and coordinating of development projects that focused on food security, training women, conducting research and promoting networking.
She has been conferred with the honour of Cavaliere della Repubblica (Knight of the Italian Republic) in 2002 by former Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in recognition of all her activities.
Ms. Dona dela Cruz, 34, is a second-generation immigrant in Italy and is the current chairperson of the Filipino Women’s Council. She continues to work in the mission of the organization to facilitate the integration of Filipina domestic workers into Italian society through various forms of empowerment and outreach activities. She also works as a bank cashier during the day.
