Building 11 Hotel Staff (Far Eastern Federal University)
Russky Island, Vladivostok
3 September 2012
Around 72 Filipinos from one of Cebu’s best five-star hotels are among those who are working as hotel staff in three of the several buildings inside the Far East Federal University campus, which is the venue for the 20th APEC Summit and Related Meetings.
These Filipinos serve Buildings 9, 10 and 11 and in three workgroups: front office, bell service and housekeeping.
According to some of these Filipino hotel employees, they underwent several trainings in Cebu before being deployed in Vladivostok. Likewise, they did familiarization tours and study of the Russian culture when they arrived here.
They believe Filipino workers are tapped to serve this big event in Russia because besides being reputed to be hardworking and friendly, they have very good training in customer service and well-skilled in speaking English.
In less than a month of stay in Vladivostok, they have easily bonded with their Russian co-workers but they still consider the big challenge of working with different nationalities and overcoming the language barriers.
They wish to at least meet President Benigno Aquino III during his stay in Vladivostok.
