Maritess Lwin has been living in Yangon since 1999 and is married to a Myanmar national whom she met in Singapore. She narrated her humble beginnings as a worker in Singapore and the struggles that she and her husband faced when they first settled in Yangon.

A born again Christian, Maritess did not let the seemingly daunting challenges overcome her spirit and successfully established an orphanage in Yangon named the Myo Myanmar Youth Development Center, duly accredited as a First Grade Centre by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement since February 18, 2014.

Currently, the center provides shelter to orphans composed of male and female teenagers, as well as to toddlers.
