Being in Vancouver for more than fifteen years, Joel Castillo has been actively involved in various Filipino community groups in the British Colombia, a province in Canada. He first represented the Ilocano-Canadian Organization as the Secretary until he was elected the President of the United Filipino-Canadian Association in BC up to present. The association is the umbrella organization of all the Filipino community groups in the province.
As a community leader, Joel is one of the front-runners in terms of promoting the Filipino culture, customs and values among the Pinoys in BC through numerous activities and events such as the annual celebration of the Philippine Independence Day which they call “Pista ng Bayan”. He has also been active in fundraising efforts to help those who are affected by different calamities in the Philippines. Moreover, Joel together with other community leaders is committed to extend support of any kind to the Filipinos living and working in Canada.
