Consul General Emilio T. Fernandez of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Honolulu, Hawaii provides an overview of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s schedule during his ongoing trip to the United States of America (USA), which will conclude with a Working Visit to Hawaii from November 18 to 19, 2023.
According to Consul General Fernandez, the President’s working visit holds sentimental significance as he returns to Hawaii—the state that embraced him and his family after they fled the Philippines in February 1986. This time, he returns as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines.
Among the highlights of the President Marcos Jr.’s visit include a meeting with the Filipino Community at the Hawaii Convention Center, where he plans to outline several programs and initiatives of his Administration, including ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ his leadership’s brand of governance.
Moreover, Consul General Fernandez mentions the Chief Executive’s agenda for his meeting with security officials of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM). This meeting is expected to bolster Philippine maritime security amid the heightened tensions over territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
The two-day working visit of President Marcos Jr. to Honolulu, Hawaii serves as the culmination of his trip to the USA during which he attended the recently concluded 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in San Francisco, California and held a Working Visit in Los Angeles, California.
