Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
November 7, 2016

Ambassador Jose Eduardo E. Malaya III is the current Ambassador of the Philippines to Malaysia.

Ambassador Malaya said that the upcoming visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to Malaysia is very significant for the bilateral relations between the two countries. He also talked about the recent developments of Malaysia’s role in the Mindanao peace process.

In addition, the Ambassador emphasized the Philippine government’s shared efforts with Malaysia and Indonesia in addressing security issues in the Sulu Sea, particularly kidnapping, piracy and terrorism.

With regards to the administration’s commitment to pursue federalism, Ambassador Malaya discussed how suitable the Malaysian federal structure is for the Philippines. Apart from having a comparable total land area with the Philippines, Malaysia is the only Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) country with a federal set up, which he pointed out is a fine example to look up to.

Ambassador Malaya is a former Foreign Affairs (DFA) Spokesperson. He earlier served at the Philippine missions in New York, Brussels, Chicago and San Francisco.
