Cagayan Province

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte inspected the new Lal-lo Airport during his visit to the Cagayan province.
Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) Administrator and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Secretary Raul Lambino, together with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, briefed the President about the latest developments on the completed facilities and ongoing upgrades in the airport, including the acquisition of needed equipment and issuance of the permit based on the requirements from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), in order for the airport to be fully operational.
Secretary Lambino also discussed to President Duterte the proposed project that would equip the airport with hangars for private jets, repair and maintenance facilities, and a cargo hub. An ‘aerotropolis’ — which features new residential, commercial and business centers, government offices, and public transport terminals — is also visualized to complement the area.
The CEZA, a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) created under Republic Act No. 7922 which manages the 50,000-hectare economic zone in Cagayan, also proposed its Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) that would help spur economic growth within the municipalities of Lal-lo and Sta. Ana.
The airport construction is a joint venture between the CEZA and a private group. It aims to cut the three-hour land travel from Tuguegarao Airport to Santa Ana, the seat of CEZA, to a 45-minute drive.
