President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inspection of the damages at Surigao Airport caused by Typhoon ‘Odette’ (international name: Rai) in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

In a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) during a situation briefing on 17 December 2021, the airport terminal was severely damaged by the typhoon. Nonetheless, the runway remains undamaged and clear of debris, making it safe for planes and choppers carrying relief goods to land.
