“If there was one silver lining amidst the dark clouds brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, I suppose it could be said it is the hastening of the adoption of technological innovations in this digital and modern age,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed as he graced the inauguration of the UnionBank Innovation Campus in the City of San Pedro, Laguna.

The Chief Executive led the Digital Ribbon Cutting Ceremony together with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual and top officials of UnionBank. He also checked the facilities of the campus and conducted a tour of the UnionBank Innovation Festival.

In his message, President Marcos Jr. commended the UnionBank for this innovation as this will benefit the nation’s economy and allow the ordinary citizens — who now have access to digital transformation — to take advantage of the convenience, efficiency and new products that these innovations offer.

He also highlighted the need to “hone the competencies in areas such as software development, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology, among others” to achieve the goals under the Philippine Skills Framework.

The UnionBank Innovation Campus is envisioned to be the leading research and technology hub in the country primarily designed to be the home of various centers of innovation such as UnionDigital — the digital banking arm of UnionBank — and the first-ever Asian Institute of Digital Transformation (AIDT).

During the President’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July 2022, he highlighted the significance of digital transformation in the Philippines in order to stay attuned with the world as it enters “an age of exponential adoption of technology” and for the nation to achieve success in this Fourth Industrial Revolution.
