Alabang, Muntinlupa City

With the aim to promote greater mobility and contribute to the safe reopening of economic activities in Metro Manila, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the formal opening of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Elevated Extension Project at the Alabang Northbound Entry in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
“We welcome this infrastructure development at a time when our economy is slowly opening up and recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” President Duterte said in his remarks.
The Chief Executive lauded the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), as well as its private partners, for their support and cooperation leading to the successful completion of the Skyway extension.
“I commend the Department of Public Works and Highways and its private partners for the successful inauguration of the SLEX Elevated Extension Project. Indeed, this project is a strong testament to the Administration’s commitment to building resilient infrastructure project despite — as said by Mr. Ramon Ang — the present challenges,” said President Duterte as he reaffirmed his Administration’s steadfast commitment to complete critical infrastructure projects, even beyond his term.
Directly linked to the Skyway System, the PhP14 billion initiative is designed to ease traffic congestion in the southern portion of Metro Manila, particularly in SLEX, where traffic could stretch up to 10 kilometers during peak hours due to the bottleneck traffic in Alabang viaduct. The Skyway extension measures 3.99 kilometers starting from Susana Heights in Muntinlupa City to Sucat in Parañaque City.
The extension will also allow northbound motorists to bypass the usual chokepoints in Alabang, Magallanes, and EDSA, as well as reach the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) within 25 to 30 minutes instead of the usual 2-3 hours of travel. The expansion project will have an additional capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour and will benefit around 200,000 northbound and southbound motorists daily.
“To our dear kababayans, this is your government at work. Let me assure the entire nation that we will be unrelenting in the pursuit of a more comfortable life for everyone through safe and reliable infrastructures,” the President concluded.
