New Passenger Terminal Building, Sangley Airport, Cavite City, Cavite
February 15, 2020

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inauguration of the Sangley Airport Development Project (SADP) and presentation of the Sangley Point International Airport (SPIA) Project at the New Passenger Terminal Building (NPTB), Sangley Airport in Cavite City, Cavite.

Prior to the program, President Duterte conducted a windshield inspection of the new airport apron and the Hangar 1, and led the unveiling of the Sangley Airport marker.

The SADP and SPIA Project form part of the President’s directive to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in addressing the issue of air traffic growth at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) that is currently operating above its existing capacity.

The $10 billion expansion project of the Sangley Airport, previously known as the Major Danilo Atienza Air Base (MDAAB), will be co-used by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Philippine Navy (PN) to ensure that safeguards would be in place in asserting Philippine sovereignty and security.

The project is proposed to have four (4) runways, airside and landslide facilities, and a terminal that can handle 100 million passengers annually.

On October 2019, the Sangley Airport successfully commenced its operational dry run, boasting a 2.4-kilometer runway with a 3.5-kilometer width.

Most of the passengers would be ferried through the waters, which would last no more than 15 minutes from Pasay City to Sangley Point. A Point-to-Point (P2P) bus service will also be made available to provide additional accessibility to the Sangley Airport. It will carry two (2) routes — Sangley to NAIA and Sangley to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
