President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inauguration of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) Project in a ceremony held at the CCLEX Toll Plaza in Cordova, Cebu.
In his keynote address, President Duterte expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders, which include the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC), and the local government units (LGUs) of Cebu City and the Municipality of Cordova, for completing the said project despite the challenges confronting the nation.
“Your support for this Administration’s goal to boost regional development, provide a comfortable life for every Filipino and realize our vision of a strongly connected nation, is truly commendable,” he said.
The President also imparted that this day’s inauguration was an opportune time as it coincided with the 501st celebration of the Victory at Mactan. “I am glad to see the sheer will and determination of our forebears being resonated in our people today, as we open this transport facility to the public,” he added.
“This state-of-the-art infrastructure will provide a solution to the perennial traffic issues of Metro Cebu. I am hopeful that this shall likewise result in an increased economic productivity in the Province and the rest of the Visayas through safer, faster and more convenient means of transporting goods, as well as people,” President Duterte continued.
The CCLEX, envisioned to become one of the tourist attractions in the Visayas, is an 8.9-kilometer road that links mainland Cebu in Cebu City to Mactan Island through Cordova.
The monumental project has a design speed of 60-80 kilometers per hour (kph) and a navigational clearance or height of 52 meters that would allow large vessels to pass underneath the bridge. It is also expected to serve around 50,000 vehicles daily.
“Once again, I assure you that no Filipino will be left behind as we steadfastly and collectively work towards a stronger and a progressive nation. Let us celebrate another victory that will alleviate the plight of our fellow Filipinos,” the Chief Executive ended.
