President Benigno S. Aquino III led the inaugural drive-through of the 6,200th kilometer of National Roads (Jct. Mianay-Duyoc-Calaan-Panitan Road) at Barangay Duyoc in Dao, Capiz.

Amounting to an allocated budget of P151,682,726 under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the newly-rehabilitated National Road is currently undergoing its final phase since it underwent road improvement in 2012. Once completed, travel time from Jct. Mianay, Sigma to the municipality of Panitan in Capiz will be cut down from 1 hour to 30 minutes. The road will also provide the shortest route to transport goods and services from the 2nd Congressional District of Capiz to the northern part of Iloilo province.

“Itong inisyatiba pong ito, kasama ng iba pa nating mga proyektong pang-imprastruktura, ginagawa natin para maihatid ang mga produkto sa merkado sa pinaka-episyenteng paraan. Bilang isang kapuluan, makakatulong din itong makonekta at mai-ugnay ang ating mga probinsya. Dulo nito, masasagad natin ang ating potensyal, at makakapagbukas tayo ng mas maraming pagkakataon sa pag-asenso para sa Pilipino,” the President said.

He also urged the Capizeños to continue choosing the straight path in the upcoming national election in May 2016 that will institute and continue the reforms his administration has initiated.

Joining President Aquino were House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr., Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson, Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio “Jun” Abaya, Dao Municipality Mayor Joselito “Bobo” Escutin and Sigma Municipality Mayor Christopher “Chris” Andaya.
