President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the simultaneous inauguration of seven (7) seaport development projects in Bohol, marking the biggest investment in seaports from 2016 to 2020 under the President’s Build, Build, Build Program.

“The constructions and repairs done in these ports will allow Bohol to accommodate more people and goods from neighboring provinces and contribute much to the province’s recovery from the pandemic,” said President Duterte, noting further that these development projects further strengthen Bohol as the catalyst for economic growth in the Visayas.

The seven (7) seaports, namely the Ports of Tagbilaran, Jagna, Ubay, Tapal, Talibon, Loon and Maribojoc, were improved, expanded and developed to spur socio-economic activities which translate to more entrepreneurial activities and jobs, especially in the agricultural and tourism sectors — the main drivers of economic growth in Bohol.

The seaport development projects were completed with various improvements such as covered walkways, security fence, reinforced concrete pier, passenger terminal building and bigger ramps to accommodate larger sea vessels, among other improvements.

“All these developments support this administration’s vision to provide our people with improved mobility, as well as [a more] comfortable, productive and dignified life for every Filipino,” the President stated.

The Chief Executive commended the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for “successfully completing these projects that mark another milestone under the Build, Build, Build Program.”

Within five (5) years of President Duterte’s Administration, a total of 472 port projects were completed under the leadership of DOTr and PPA.
