Pavia, Iloilo
9 February 2016
President Benigno S. Aquino III visited the province of Iloilo and inaugurated a three-storey, 18-classroom building in Pavia National High School (PNHS).
The school building is a joint project of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through the funding of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
In his speech, President Aquino imparted that the project forms part of the K-12 program implementation. It will be used by incoming senior high school students this June. “Makakaasa po kayo: tinutugunan ng inyong gobyerno ang mga pangangailangan sa ating basic education,” the President said.
A turnover of the school building keys to PNHS Principal Delorrah Fantillo was conducted together with PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Cristino Naguiat Jr., DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro, and DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson.
President Aquino also led the ceremonial switch-on for the electrification of 3,618 sitios in Panay Island, an initiative brought by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Electrification Administration (NEA) through the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP), which is designed to power-up households even in remote areas.
Among the energized sitios, 333 are in Aklan, 628 in Antique, 508 in Capiz, 192 in Guimaras and 1,957 in Iloilo. Another 87 sitios are still in the works for electrification.
“Itong pagpapatayo ng mga paaralan, pagpapailaw sa mga komunidad, kasama na ang pagpapaunlad ng imprastraktura at serbisyong panlipunan, ay haligi ng ating agenda ng malawakang reporma,” President Aquino added.
