Brgy. Bukal Sur, Candelaria, Quezon
September 17, 2012
President Benigno S. Aquino III led the ceremonial drive-thru of the 7.5-kilometer by-pass road in Candelaria, Quezon.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson briefed President Aquino on the two-lane concrete road with three bridges and a box culvert on a 20 meter wide Road-Right-of-Way (RROW). The road will be part of the Pan Philippine Highway which is the North-South backbone of the country’s major arterial road network.
In his statement, the President enumerated possible benefits that can be brought by the newly-concreted thoroughfare such as traffic decongestion, faster delivery of native Quezon products to market, influx of investors which entails establishment of businesses and creation of jobs, and overall spur of economic growth in Quezon province. He also cited the increasing demand for coconut water exportation and reported that in a span of two years, the country exported 16 million liters of coco water. Quezon is one of the nation’s leading sources of coconut products including “buko” water.
President Aquino was accompanied by Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II and other local government officials.
