President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the groundbreaking ceremony of the 50-hectare Scout Ranger Ville housing project to be situated between the borders of Barangays Calumpang and Tartaro-Sibul in San Miguel, Bulacan.
In his speech, he said that he is hopeful that by December this year, the soldiers can have their housing units ready. He also mentioned that the soldiers would receive P70, 000 from the government.
The President also stressed the importance of using durable and quality building materials that will ensure the longevity and safety of the housing units to be given. He also cited other housing projects for government troops that will commence in Davao City, Mati City, Iligan City, and Zamboanga City.
“Marami ho akong housing para sa inyo. You have the five buildings, 200 units ‘yung mga taga-Davao and the peripheral provinces ng mga sundalo. Buildings, you have 660 units. Itong buildings, medyo maliliit but itong floor area ninyo sa five buildings is already 42 from 24,” he said.
“What I have noticed actually ‘yung… take note of this, Housing, ‘yung mga materials sa banyo. ‘Yun ang nagbe-break down kaagad. So you might… It’s all very cheap now… but I’d like you to choose the durable ones. Wear and tear ‘yan araw-araw. Pati ‘yung… ang unang nagfa-falter, alam mo? Flush,” he added.
The President vowed to put an end in the terrorism activities in Marawi City and shared sentiments with the soldiers.
“But ‘yan ang take ko ngayon sa inyo. I am very sad that we have lost a lot of men diyan sa Marawi and basta sabi ko, there will be no letup until the last terrorist is taken out,” he said.
The Commander-In-Chief also considered the proposition of leasing the properties of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in order to gather funds for the welfare of the soldiers.
The housing project is an agreement between Manila Banking Corporation (Manilabank), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), National Housing Authority (NHA), Pag-IBIG Fund, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the Scout Ranger Multi-Purpose Cooperative under the AFP/PNP Housing Program.
