President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) Chief Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez, Jr. and Philippine Army 1st Infantry Division Commander Major General Roseller Murillo, led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a military camp that will be erected at the Old City Hall in Barangay Kapantaran, Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.
Commanding General Philippine Army (CGPA) Lieutenant General Rolando Bautista briefed the President on the construction of the new military camp.
The proposed camp is located within the main battle area during the Marawi siege, overlooking the entire city and Lake Lanao at 788 meters above sea level. The new camp will have a total land area of 103,291 square meters or 10.3 hectares.
The new military camp would help secure a stronghold and establish a strategic base in Marawi City as a pre-emptive measure for the re-entry of Maute-ISIS-inspired terrorist group and to protect the region from any security threats.
