President Benigno S. Aquino III, together with Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and House Speaker Feliciano ‘Sonny’ Belmonte Jr., led the formal opening of the C3 Road (G. Araneta Avenue) and Quezon Boulevard Interchange Project with an inaugural drive-through.

The project is slated for completion by December 10, 2012 but is now ready for the motoring public when the Department of Public Works and Highways months finished it months ahead after the 24/7 scheme implemented by the agency to accelerate work completion and minimize traffic inconvenience since it commenced on June 20, 2011.

In his brief remarks, the President said it was impressive to know that the project cost only P430 million from the approved budget of P694 million.

Designed to improve traffic flow at the intersection of Quezon Avenue and C-3 (G. Araneta Avenue) and reduce pollution load, it involved the construction of a depressed underpass with a length of 440 lineal meters and 330 lineal meters approaches along Quezon Avenue. It also included the installation of three (3) submersible pumps back up by a power house with generating set and motor circuit control to operate depending on the intensity of the rain. The provision of water cisterns beneath the underpass with enough holding capacity and the construction of reinforced concrete box and pipe culverts will also help manage flooding.
