Following his one-on-one meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte proceeded to an expanded bilateral meeting with the two leaders’ respective official delegation.

In a press conference earlier at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez said that the official visit of the President in Malaysia is a manifestation of his administration’s goals to strengthen the Philippines’ ties with other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

With Malaysia being an active supporter of the peace process, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Chair Abul Khayr Alonto also shared that this visit is geared towards the advancement of Mindanao and its people, with the support of the DTI and the initiatives of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

Present during the bilateral meeting are DTI Secretary Lopez, Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr., National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Jose Eduardo Malaya III, and others.
