President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with the local government officials of Sulu and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) military commanders in an executive session in Patikul, Sulu.

In his statement, the Chief Executive reiterated that his administration aims to establish long-term peace in Mindanao. He also mentioned that the hope for the Moro people is education.

“I am here to help, I am here to plead for peace… I am here to stop the fighting,” he said.

President Duterte also invited the local government officials led by Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan II, and his father, former Governor Abdusakur Tan, to a one-day meeting in Malacañan Palace to address the issues in Mindanao, particularly the situation in Sulu.

The President was joined in the event by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Undersecretary Eduardo Año, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director-General Secretary Guiling Mamondiong, and Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.
