President Rodrigo Roa Duterte assured the war-torn residents of Marawi of his plans to rebuild a better city during a dinner celebration of Eid’l Fitr at the Rizal Hall in Malacañan Palace.

According to the President, the government has launched Task Force Bangon Marawi, a multi-agency effort that would facilitate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the city. A PhP 20 billion fund has already been allocated and set aside to mobilize its plans. He also assured to source out more funds if necessary.

“I will see to it that Marawi will rise as a prosperous city again,” the President said. He added that he would not tolerate the abuse and brutality that the Maute group has inflicted on the people, and promised to eliminate them in the Muslim world.

Joining the President for the Eid’l Fitr celebration were his Cabinet members, invited senators, and local officials from Mindanao. Also present were Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chair Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim, members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), and several Mindanao tribe leaders.
