President Benigno S. Aquino III joined the nation as it commemorated the 29th anniversary of the peaceful revolt that made a mark throughout the world, now known as the EDSA People Power Revolution.
In his statement, President Aquino looked back on the events that transpired before the peaceful revolution; on what he felt when he lost his father; and how the situation and overflowing of support changed him. He reminded everyone on the power of trust, compassion, love and peace.
The President emphasized that the events happening in Mindanao are also causing unrest in the country. Furthermore, he said that the road to peace is not easy but there is a chance to change the fate of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanano (ARMM) through the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) which is widely supported by other countries. He also said that it is only through achieving lasting peace that the sacrifices of the people power participants and those who gave up their lives for the country will be paralleled.
Before his speech, the President participated in a holy mass officiated by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
