In the 28th anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution, the EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) decided to break away from its traditional commemoration. This year, the celebration looks beyond the historical event and focuses on the heroism that the nation witnessed after a series of tragedies that hit the country last year.

Inspection of Recovery Projects in Cateel, Davao Oriental
President Benigno S. Aquino III spearheaded this year’s anniversary by inspecting the different recovery projects for the victims of Typhoon Pablo. His tour started at Baganga, Davao Oriental where he assessed the chili farm field, also known as the Hot Pablo Livelihood Project, as well as the rehabilitation of the Lumao Bridge in Barangay Alegria, Cateel and the permanent resettlement site in Poblacion, Cateel.
He also held a dialogue with the farmers who exhibited extraordinary resiliency in overcoming their trials.
Pulong Bayan at Loon, Bohol
From Cateel, Davao Oriental, President Aquino flew to Loon, Bohol and held a Pulong Bayan (town hall meeting) with the survivors and volunteers of disasters such as the Bohol earthquake and Typhoon Yolanda. On this meeting, participants shared with the President inspiring stories of their survival.

Salubungan
For the very first time, the official anniversary program will be held in the Provincial Capitol Grounds of Cebu City, which includes the symbolic re-enactment of the Salubungan. The activity commemorates the peaceful struggle for freedom and change through the convergence of civilian and military forces in 1986.
Inspection of New Boats at Bantayan Island, Cebu
Following the Salubungan program in Cebu City, President Aquino will proceed to Bantayan Island, Cebu to inspect more than a hundred boats donated by various non-government organizations for the fishermen whose boats were destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda.
Inspection of Various Rehabilitation Projects in Leyte and Samar
After leaving Bantayan Island in Cebu, President Aquino will fly to Tanauan, Leyte, Guiuan, Eastern Samar then to Tacloban City, Leyte for the evaluation of different rehabilitation projects in the said localities.
