Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte
14 January 2015

Three days before the much anticipated visit of His Holiness Pope Francis in Tacloban City and Palo in Leyte, the security force in the province rehearsed the activities of the Pope this coming Saturday.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Presidential Security Group (PSG) led the itinerary of Pope Francis, starting from his arrival at the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City, up to the Bishops Residence and Palo Metropolitan Cathedral in Palo despite the rainy weather.

The dry-run started at 9:30 am until 12:00 nn. The 15-kilometer stretch from Tacloban City to Palo was guarded with a heavy police force to ensure everyone’s safety. The police authority asked for the cooperation of the people during this event, saying that they understand the eagerness of the Filipinos to have a glimpse of the Pope, but peace and security will always be their top priority.

As the Papal Visit in Leyte is fast approaching, security measures in the place are now doubled, with checkpoints and more police visibility in the areas of concern.
