President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the distribution of goods and assistance amounting to PhP16.04 million to affected families of the recent heavy rains and floods in Northern Mindanao as he visited the Municipality of Tudela, Misamis Occidental.
More than a thousand residents from different municipalities in Misamis Occidental received various assistance such as cash aid and food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Likewise, PhP55.81 million worth of financial aid courtesy of the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) was allotted to 11,133 beneficiaries in Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental.
President Marcos Jr. ordered all the involved government agencies such as the DSWD and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the recovery of victims. He also directed the National Housing Authority (NHA) to look for resettlement areas for the residents whose houses were destroyed by the extensive flooding.
Aside from this, the Chief Executive reassured the victims that his Administration will continue to provide relief goods, drinking water, clothing and temporary shelters.
Since December 2022, torrential rains and massive flooding have devastated the Province due to effects of a weather system called ‘shear line.’ This caused extensive damages to infrastructure and agriculture, with more than 56,000 Filipinos displaced, prompting the Provincial Government to declare a state of calamity in Misamis Occidental.
