President Benigno S. Aquino III led the distribution of relief packs to some one hundred families temporarily seeking refuge at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran, Bohol for fear of aftershocks from the devastating earthquake that hit the province.

In his statement, President Aquino assured the families that the government stands ready to attend to their needs and is currently assessing the damage that the 7.2 magnitude earthquake left. He also assured the people that 75% of the electricity will return to normalcy within the day. Furthermore, he said that damaged bridges will be replaced and reconstructed the soonest time possible in order to connect communities.

On the aftermath of the quake, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) immediately sent 2,500 relief packs to families seeking shelter at the complex. During the visit of the President, the department gave an additional 2,000 family packs. Each pack contained three kilos of rice, cans of sardines, coffee and noodles.

The devastating earthquake that shook Bohol struck at 8:12 a.m. on October 15, 2013 (Tuesday) with its epicenter said to be about 33 kilometers (20 miles) below Carmen City.
