Tunasan Elementary School, Muntinlupa City
8 August 2012

President Benigno S. Aquino III led the distribution of relief goods to flood victims currently taking refuge at the Tunasan Elementary School in Muntinlupa City.

The elementary school-turned-evacuation site housed 784 families or 3,920 people from eight different barangays in Muntinlupa. However, much of the severely affected families are those living near the coastline of Laguna de Bay.

According to the evacuees, floodwaters in the area have reached waist-high level from yesterday’s heavy rainfall. Although much of the floodwaters have now subsided to knee-high and is continuously receding, the local government still insists for flood victims to remain in the evacuation site since the weather has not yet normalized.

The United Nations World Food Programme has also distributed 13 metric tons of easy-to-consume high energy biscuits, an addition to the relief goods being distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which consists of canned goods, rice and beddings.

In his visit the President was joined by his sibling Kris Aquino, Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma, TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva, Energy Secretary Jose Almendras, Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson, former AKBAYAN Representative Risa Hontiveros, Aurora Congressman Sonny Angara, Muntinlupa Congressman Rodolfo Biazon and Mayor Aldrin San Pedro.
