Despite the sudden downpour, President Benigno S. Aquino III distributed relief packs and hygiene kits to flood victims housed in an evacuation center at the Binakayan National High School in Brgy. Pulborista, Kawit, Cavite.

In his short statement, President Aquino said that the Department of Public Works and Highways is doing its best to resolve the cause of flooding in their town. He also encouraged all evacuees to support each other in overcoming the severe effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical storm “Maring”.

The President, assisted by Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman, gave out 3 kilos of rice, canned goods, sliced bread, blanket, sleeping mat and toiletries to each of the 240 calamity-stricken families. They came from the barangays of Pulborista, Congbalay and Aplaya, the lowest-lying areas in the town of Kawit where floods reached up to chest-deep level.

Cavite is under a state of calamity along with four other provinces namely, Pampanga, Bataan, Laguna, and Rizal.
