Tinabunan Elementary School
Imus, Cavite
22 August 2013
President Benigno S. Aquino III visited Tinabunan Elementary School in Imus, Cavite to check on the condition of the evacuees that took shelter after Southwest Monsoon (Hanging Habagat) enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring devastated the province.
He distributed relief goods such as packed food, bread, clothes, blanket, and sleeping mats together with Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma.
President Aquino said that there are concrete solutions to lessen Cavite’s problems regarding floods. According to him, he and Secretary Singson are now in talks about a 50-hectare land that will serve as a catch basin whenever Bacoor and Imus can no longer hold the floodwater.
A total of 177 families moved to the school after the heavy downpour these past few days caused chest-level floods in the area. They started evacuating last August 19 (Monday). Secretary Soliman said that there are 23,681 affected families from the 90 barangays of Imus.
