President Benigno S. Aquino III led the distribution of relief goods to 620 families seeking refuge at the Dela Paz Main Elementary School after their houses had been battered by floodwaters brought by rains of tropical storm ‘Maring’ and a southwest monsoon.

Worth P250.20 per family food packs, each pack includes: three kgs. of rice, five noodles, four corned beef, four sardines, five 3-in-1 coffee sachets, mats and blankets.

In a briefing, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman said that an estimated 3,300 families (15,950 individuals) in Laguna were severely affected. Reports showed that massive flooding came from swollen riverwaters from Laguna de Bay and Biñan River, submerging eight municipalities with areas reaching in neck-deep floodwaters.

Although much of the floodwater had already receded, the locality had nonetheless prepared 42 evacuation sites in case flooding continues.

Joining the President were Biñan City Mayor Marlyn Alonte, Laguna Governor Emilio Ramon ‘ER’ Ejercito, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras.
