President José Ramos-Horta of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste concludes his four-day State Visit to the Philippines that elevated diplomatic relations between the two countries, as he departs from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, Pasay City on November 11, 2023.
During his visit, he engaged in bilateral talks with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at the Malacañan Palace. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration across various sectors, including political, technical, educational and economic cooperation, among other areas.
Aiming to strengthen the ties between the Philippines and Timor-Leste, President Marcos Jr. expressed eagerness to further explore opportunities for cooperation with the Timorese government.
The Chief Executive highlighted the Philippines’ continuous assistance to Timor-Leste, particularly in its bid to achieve full membership in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
For his part, President Ramos-Horta conveyed his appreciation for the steadfast support of the Philippines towards Timor-Leste. He specifically acknowledged the assistance provided by the Philippines in vital areas for their country.
The Philippines and Timor-Leste formally established diplomatic relations on May 20, 2002.
