President Benigno S. Aquino III left the country to attend the 21st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Different items on the agenda will be tackled with the other ASEAN leaders including the progress report on the implementation of the master plan for ASEAN connectivity; human rights declaration; external relations and the exchange of views on international and regional developments. The President will also join other ASEAN leaders together with the Heads of State of Japan, South Korea, India, China and United States to review the future direction of the dialogue partner cooperation and exchange of views on regional and international issues.

The Philippines will continue to advocate maritime security and cooperation, the West Philippine Sea, people empowerment through migrant workers’ protection and welfare, and the review of the ASEAN Charter.

The 7th East Asia Summit will also be held in Cambodia. Together with the eight ASEAN East Asia partners, they will also review the adoption of the declaration of the 7th East Asia Summit on resistance to anti-malarial medicine. The next ASEAN Summit will be held in Brunei Darussalam next year.
