President Benigno S. Aquino III departed for South Korea to attend the 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) – Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit to further strengthen the relation and cooperation between the two nations.

In his speech, President Aquino cited this event as another chance for the Philippines to renew its ties with South Korea in building better ties that will support the country’s economy, national security, and tourism. He expressed excitement for another meeting with South Korean President Park Geun-Hye, saying he will take the opportunity to discuss with his counterpart some matters of stability and development for the two countries.

Moreover, one of the highlights of the summit is the advocacy of the Philippines towards global climate change. President Aquino confirmed he will open up the issue with other Asian leaders, saying he is willing to share the country’s preparedness and best practices with them in times of calamity. Regarding the recent Typhoon Ruby that struck the country, the President complemented the Filipinos for their fast response and alertness during the typhoon. Likewise, he assured that even if he heads for South Korea, he will monitor the latest developments of the aftermath of Typhoon Ruby through the members of the Cabinet whose doing their best to normalize the lives of the people affected by the said typhoon.

“Tulad ng dati, makakaasa po kay: Susulitin natin ang bawat sandal upang mapaigting ang pakikipagtulungan sa ibang bansa; kukunin natin ang bawat pagkakataon para makapaghatid ng mas maraming oportunidad sa pag-asenso sa ating mga Boss, ang sambayanang Pilipino,” President Aquino remarked.
