President Rodrigo Roa Duterte paid a courtesy call on Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc at the Prime Minister’s Office in Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.
The President is on a two-day official visit to Vietnam to solidify the 40-year-old bilateral ties and seek new avenues to strengthen defense, trade, and maritime cooperation.
Both leaders’ position in handling the South China Sea disputes is in line with the ASEAN’s position on the matter, which is respecting the rule of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
They reaffirmed their commitment to promote peace, security, stability and freedom of navigation in the region by not doing any provocative acts that would undermine the peaceful settlement of these disputes.
Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc assumed office in April 2, 2016 and is the eighth Prime Minister of Vietnam. He is a member of the 12th Politburo and ranked 6th in its hierarchy.
