President Benigno S. Aquino III welcomed Unilever officials, led by their global CEO Paul Polman, in a courtesy call in Malacañang.

Polman was accompanied by Unilever Australasia President Peter Frank ter-Kulve, Unilever Philippines Chairman Rohit Jawa and Vice President for Customer Development Carl Cruz.

According to Unilever Philippines Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Ramon Gil Macapagal, the company’s global leaders wanted to express to President Aquino their intention of sustaining Unilever’s presence in the country while they look for ways on how the government can actually help them grow their business, benefitting both the United Kingdom and the Philippines.

Unilever is currently assessing the suitability of its manufacturing facility here in Manila if there is a need for plant expansion or consider doing it in other areas.

With headquarters in Rotterdam, Netherlands and London, UK, the global consumer goods company of Unilever employs around 1,800 Filipinos in their Philippine operations and actively works with the government in the area of post-Yolanda rehabilitation efforts.

Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon ‘Dinky’ Soliman, Miguel Abellada and Nina Abellada were also present during the call.
