President Benigno S. Aquino III received International Committee of the Red Cross President Peter Maurer in Malacañang.

Mr. Maurer was accompanied by ICRC Head of Operations for East Asia and the Pacific Alain Aeschliman, Head Delegate Pascal Mauchle and Deputy Head of Delegation Graziella Leite-Piccolo.

The ICRC delegation in Manila focuses on humanitarian response in certain areas in the country suffering from the consequences of long-running armed conflicts. ICRC was permanently established in the Philippines in 1982.

President Aquino accepted from Mr. Maurer a framed photograph of former President Corazon Aquino with then ICRC President Cornelio Summaruga during a visit of his mother at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland in 1988.

Health Secretary Enrique Ona, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita ‘Ging’ Deles, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon ‘Dinky’ Soliman and Presidential Assistant on Rehabilitation and Recovery Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson were also present during the call.
