President Rodrigo Roa Duterte received the members of the Malaysia-Philippine Business Council (MPBC) led by its president, Tan Sri Dr. Azmil Khalili Bin Dato’ Khalid, in a courtesy call at Putrajaya, Malaysia.

In an interview with Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Jose Eduardo Malaya III, he said that the objective of President Duterte’s visit to Malaysia is not only to address political and national security concerns, but also to further develop business opportunities between the Filipinos and Malaysians.

“We would like this to grow… We would like Filipinos and Malaysian entrepreneurs and companies to engage each other closer, and the official visit will provide opportunities for doing that,” he said.

The Philippine-Malaysia Business Council (PMBC) was initially launched on November 23, 1996 at the height of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Forum in Manila. This was followed by the creation of the MPBC on May 28, 2012 as a result of growing business transactions between the two countries.

Joining the President in the call are Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr., and other members of the official delegation.
