Secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Family Bishop Jean Laffitte paid a courtesy call to President Benigno S. Aquino III at Malacañan Palace.
According to Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) National Chairperson Ambassador Henrietta De Villa, they discussed the ongoing Asian Conference for the Family being held in Manila. The four-day conference coincides with President Aquino’s signing of Proclamation No. 749 declaring May 12 to 18 as National Family and Marriage Week which stresses the sacredness of family life.
Moreover, the developing status of the Philippine economy was also talked about during the call, as well as the various programs of the government such as the expansion of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program, the ongoing rehabilitation of the Yolanda-affected areas, the K-12 education program, and various infrastructure projects of the government.
Together with Bishop Laffitte and Ambassador De Villa in the meeting were Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese and Bishop Gabriel Reyes of Antipolo who is also the head of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life.
