President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. discussed recent developments on relations between the Philippines and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as he met with His Excellency Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, in a courtesy call at the Study Room in Malacañan Palace.
NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue embarks on an official visit to the Philippines for the first time on 23-25 November 2022. Vietnam News Agency, the official state news provider of Vietnam, reported in its official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/VNAEnglish) that the said visit is expected to help reinforce the Philippines-Vietnam strategic partnership.
During the meeting, President Marcos Jr. expressed his hopes for the Vietnamese official to have a productive visit in the country. He shared that he previously held talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in a bilateral meeting at the 40th and 41st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and Related Summits in Cambodia earlier this month, where they touched upon issues of mutual interest such as agriculture, the growing number of public-private partnerships (PPP) between the Philippines and Vietnam, and other concerns within the ASEAN Region such as defense and security.
The Chief Executive said that he also met with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Thailand following the ASEAN Summit.
NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue also met with his Filipino counterpart, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez (1st District Representative of Leyte), when he went to the House of Representatives (HOR) earlier today. After his courtesy visit in Malacañang, he is set to meet with Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, the one who invited him to travel to the Philippines.
