A week before Chinese President Xi Jinping’s attendance to the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Manila, President Benigno S. Aquino III received Foreign Minister Wang Yi in a courtesy call held in Malacañan Palace.
Minister Yi’s visit in Manila is the first by a Chinese foreign minister under President Xi Jinping’s leadership.
During the call, preparations for the Chinese president’s visit to the country were discussed, as well as bilateral relations between the Philippines and China.
Also present during the call were Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Albert Del Rosario, DFA Undersecretary Laura Del Rosario, DFA Legal Team for West Philippine Sea Issues Head Atty. Henry S. Bensurto Jr., Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento and other high-ranking government officials from both nations.
