President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honored the Filipinos who have recently triumphed in their respective fields in sports and in the arts during a courtesy call at the Heroes Hall in Malacañan Palace.
“Well done and keep up that and what you are doing bringing glory to the Philippines… you have put once again in the grand tradition of our artists and in the grand tradition of our athletes you have put once again on the map the Philippines and the people will remember us once more as this grand culture with such great capacity, with such great potential that you are now showing to the rest of the world,” the President said.
Present in the courtesy call were athletes from various sports: the Philippine Ice Hockey Team, winner of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships Division held in Mongolia; the Makati Football Club, winner of the Paul Parker Championship Cup — the biggest youth football tournament in Asia — held in Singapore; and Boxing winners Marlon Tapales (claimed the World Super Bantamweight Titles of the IBF and WBA in Texas, USA), Charly Suarez (claimed the Super Featherweight Titles of the IBF, IBO, WBA Oceania and the WBC Asian Boxing Council held in Sydney), and Melvin Jerusalem (claimed the WBO World Minimum Weight Title).
Also present was Jex de Castro, winner of the 2023 Euro Talent Festival’s Stars of the Albion Grand Prix Competition held in London last March, who belted a song number for the President and other guests.
